Buying an Apartment

So let’s say you’re new to a city and are looking for a new place to live. Or, if you like, that you’re just looking to relocate because your family just had a new addition, in the form of a squealing baby boy or girl. Or maybe your old apartment building got demolished because of a problem with giant rats. Whatever works. The important thing is that you’re looking for a new apartment.

Now, how much you’re going to pay for said apartment is going to largely depend on what you’re looking for and where you’re looking for it. For example, a two-room apartment in Manhattan will cost you about the same – give or take – as a three or four room apartment in, say, Liverpool. Additionally, the price will depend on details like whether the apartment is already furnished or whether the apartment is completely empty.

Another thing to remember before you purchase an apartment is that things are not always how they seem. Let’s say that, in answer to an advertisement in a newspaper or on-line, you go to check out an apartment in a down-town area. You spend the afternoon examining it with the building’s super, and really like what you see. Should you immediately buy the apartment? Well, no, not really. There may be things that you can’t see right off that are rather important to your future in that apartment, like rats, plumbing problems, faulty wiring, ghosts, etc. But seriously.
